Youth Programs:

 

Story & Stroll

Rotary Botanical Garden's (RBG) youth education volunteers will host bi-monthly stories and strolls of the gardens. The program, for 3-5 year olds with an adult present, will be held the first and third Wednesdays of October, November and December from 10 am – 11 am.  Program participants will meet in the Education Room of the Parker Education Building. Garden admission as applicable (first Wednesday of the month is a free day to the general public; third Wednesday of the month regular admission is applicable- $5 per adult and no charge for youth 6 and under.  RBG Friend Membership accepted). Donations appreciated. 

This program is limited to 20 youth.  To reserve a space call (608) 752-3885, extension 17; please leave a clearly stated phone number, name, and number of adult/youth attending.  Day of program registration is discouraged.  Dress for the weather.

FALL: The Pumpkin Project

  • Grades 3, 4, 5

Times:

  • 9am to 11am OR 12:30pm to 2:30pm

Learning objectives:

  • Pumpkin parts and growth

  • History including Native Americans

  • Math component emphasizing estimating, measuring and counting skills

  • Nutrition education component

  • Craft

  • Outdoor prairie walk

 

WINTER: How Birds Make a Living

  • Grade 3, 4, 5

Dates:

  • February 2, 4

  • February 9, 11

  • February 16, 18

Times:

  • 9am to 11am OR 12:30pm to 2:30pm

Learning objectives:

  • Compare the structures of bird’s beaks

  • Infer feeding relationships

  • Demonstrate how birds are adapted to their environments

Program includes

  • Indoor hands on activity

  • Nutrition education component

  • Craft

  • Outdoor bird observation station
