Don't be fooled by the flowers as you wander through
Rotary Botanical Gardens; these extensive displays don't happen on their
own. Countless hours of sweat and tender loving care goes into each
garden area. And with only a very limited number of staff at RBG, we
count upon the volunteers who come to the gardens.
Rotary Botanical Gardens volunteer program brings
together individuals from all over the community to share in their common
interest of gardening and helping the organization of Rotary Botanical
Gardens. Volunteers can account for the nearly 20,000 hours of
volunteer service contributed to the gardens annually. The obvious
volunteer tasks are in the garden-- planting, weeding, and tending the
displays. This is only one aspect of volunteerism at RBG.
Special events, such as our annual Winter Wondlerland Walk, requires help
with admissions and trailwalking. Our plant sales need folks who can
work a cash register and help people load their cars. The visitors
center depends on volunteers to great visitors from around the country.
And many administrative "behind the scenes" tasks happen on a daily basis.

Ongoing Volunteer Groups at RBG
" Workdays" are the easiest way to begin your volunteer
experience at Rotary Botanical Gardens. These scheduled volunteer
opportunities are typically a given Saturday, 8am to Noon, and individuals
address a "flavor of the day" chore under the supervision of RBG staff.
Tasks include planting, raking, weeding and other general garden related
work.
"The Grumpies"-- an affectionate term used to describe
the volunteer group of predominantly retired gentlemen from the area. (They
used to call themselves "The Grumpy Old Men" until the first woman joined
their ranks.) This group addresses many of the outdoor chores
throughout the gardens as well as carpentry projects, etc. You don't
need to be male, retired, or grumpy to join this group! This group
meets on Monday and Thursday mornings, 8am to noon.
"Greeters & Giftshop" -- indoors, RBG offers a daily
receptionist position to volunteers who enjoy answering the phone and
greeting visitors to the gardens. Additional duties include giftshop
sales and minor administrative tasks. Individuals schedule in advance
in one of 3 available daily timeslots.
"Special Events"-- From the plant sales to Winter
Wonderland Walk, RBG needs your help with the implementation of special
events throughout the year. Tasks can include the preparation of the
event-- marketing, recruiting, decorating, etc.-- as well as working the
actual event itself. Events vary throughout the year.
Rotary Botanical Gardens offers other opportunities as
well. If you have time and talent you would like to volunteer to the
gardens, please contact us so we can find a place for you.
